Organisers of a rebel Twenty20 league in India on Thursday offered a massive $3.85 million in prize money, claiming it to be the biggest booty ever offered in a cricket tournament.

The runners-up will receive prize money of $470,000. The unofficial league is bankrolled by Subash Chandra, whose two-billion-dollar Essel Group includes the country’s biggest television network Zee Telefilms

Tonight’s fight was all about Manny Pacquiao and he didn’t disappoint his fans. Manny Pacquiao retained his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title by a unanimous decision win over challenger Joshua Clottey. The performance of Clottey was not really impressive at all. Both fighters made their way to the ring to an electrifying atmosphere In front of an estimated 50,994 spectators at the new $1.2 billion cowboy’s stadium situated in Arlington, Texas. Tonight was the first boxing match to take place in the impressive arena. The fight between both boxers really didn’t pick up until the 11th round when there was a lot of punches being thrown back and forth. Manny was heavily favored to win the fight, so it’s no surprise he won. It’s too bad that Clottey didn’t put up much of a “fight”. It would have made a good fight that much better. Up until then, it was mainly all Pacquiao putting a beating on a dodging Clottey. Pacquiao now has a 51-3-2 record while Clottey fell to 35-4.

Now it is officially declared that South Africa is going to host second edition of Indian Premier League. The decision has confirmed after a meeting between IPL commissioner Lalit modi and Cricket South Africa chief executive Gerald Majola. The tournament will begin on 18 April, a week later than originally planned. Johannesburg, Durban, Centurion, Port Elizabeth, East London and Cape Town will be announced as the host center. South Africa was considered the hot favorite to host the second season of the IPL since IPL officials expressed concern about the impact of England’s spring weather have on the tournament. England also cause problems in terms of cost, planning and the likelihood of conflicts between the TV rights holders.

Indian shooting star 25 years old Abhinav Bindra wins India’s first ever individual gold at the Olympic Games by winning the men’s 10m air rifle event.

Bindra finished with 700.5 points. Zhu, the 2004 Gold Medalist from Athenes Olympics, had 699.7 points. Hakkinen got the bronze with 699.4 points. He scored 596 (fourth) in the qualifying round and out-scored all other shooters in the finals with a round of 104.5.

Congrats to Abhinav Bindra for taking Indian shooting sports to another new level. This is India’s first gold medal since 1980.
